Native Plants Make Big Impact on Ecology

There’s a misconception that “native plants” is another word for “flowering weeds.”  But what most people don’t understand is that native plants are an essential building block in developing and maintaining an ecosystem.

It’s kind of like the commonly-referred to “Circle of Life” made popular by a well-known Disney movie. For example, a plant grows and thrives because an animal pollinates the plant. That animal exists because it relies on the pollen as a source of food. Other animals – and humans for that matter – rely on animals and plants for food. Each natural organism relies on the other for survival. Without each other, the species may become less bountiful or even cease to exist, putting strain on other stages of the circle.
