Besides replacing the brass knobs on the dining room built-ins (they are not the authentic brass, rather the early 90s-ish brass), I’m not sure where my next opportunity for delectable hardware will be…maybe in the kitchen if we ever have a chance to make some changes there. I’ll have to come up with some projects - the first that come to mind are the vintage chest of drawers & wardrobes we snatched up recently from a used furniture store. They’re in much need of some TLC & I will be happy to provide it. On the whole, I’m sure my love of drawers of all sorts will provide plenty o’ opportunity (yes, I love drawers! letterpress drawers, flat files, card catalogues, map drawers, etc…).
My plans for the wallpaper include papering the wall above the mantel and the back of the built-in cabinets flanking the fireplace (the current favorite has a crisp white background with clean 1920s-ish linework in warm grey & ochre). I don’t know that I’ll be able to stop there, though. To balance the fireplace wall, I’m thinking I need a graphic pop on the wall going up the stairs as well. And then I have a couple of wood shelving units that are begging for a backdrop to my somewhat odd collections (my other fixations include vintage green & yellow & white ceramic planters like the Haeger variety, cigar boxes, wood boxes, and clear Ball Mason jars & such).
At any rate, it’s fun to spend my days here as designer and then go home to my decorator-self at night (read about one person’s explanation of the difference here). And for all you fellow house & object voyeurs out there, here are my favorite inspiration places on the world wide interweb:

Mara, thank you! The book you let me borrow is perfect (Wallpapers for Historic Buildings, Richard C. Nylander, copyright 1983). I love the fretwork patterns but I see now that these are more end of the 19th century than beginning of the 20th. To each his own! I think I will just go with what I love & know that it has vintage roots somewhere. [Love the book, however, wish the images were in color!]
Oh yes! ALSO, thank you for the catalogue copy of Rejuvination! (Rejuvenati8on, Classic American Lighting & House Parts, Fall 2009) I didn’t know they had a catalogue (sometimes it’s so much better flipping pages than clicking a mouse) and I LOVE it! Thank you! [If you love old houses check out Rejuvenation.com]
And, Ben, thanks to you, too! The tip for historic wallpapers from Bradbury & Bradbury is great. Here’s Ben’s email: “Here is that wallpaper company I was telling you about—they are probably the best known makers of reproduction historic wallpaper in the U.S.:
http://www.bradbury.com/
Their products range from about the 1870s-1960s.”
Okay, I can’t stand it. I have to blog about these wallpapers! Hold that thought…
